New Haven, Conn., Vote on Yale's Tax-Exempt Status Sends Message to State.

Jul. 8--NEW HAVEN, Conn.--After more than an hour of contentious debate, the city aldermen passed a resolution Monday that seeks to reconsider Yale's special tax-exempt status.
The resolution directed the city attorney to consider lobbying state lawmakers to revoke a "super exemption" that only Yale and a few other state schools enjoy.
Though the vote was largely symbolic -- the alderman have no authority to change state law -- supporters saw it as a clear victory for the city.
"It was a great victory," said Alderman Matthew Naclerio, who introduced the resolution. "Yale has been lobbying pretty hard in the last week" to defeat it....
