Defense Budget Plans Advance House, Senate Versions.

Jul. 10--WASHINGTON--Both chambers of Congress are moving forward this week on defense spending plans for 2004 that provide billions of dollars for weapons programs important to Connecticut contractors and their workers.

Late Tuesday night, the full House easily approved a $369 billion Pentagon budget that largely mirrors administration re...uests for key programs, nicking funding for a few and adding money for more Black Hawk variant helicopters built by Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford.

The version approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee Wednesday follows a similar path, and the full Senate is expected to take up the measure ...uickly.
