Group of Senators Vows to Restore Media-Ownership Rules.

Jul. 16--WASHINGTON -- A bipartisan group of senators vowed Tuesday to press Congress to restore the media-ownership regulations that were just relaxed by the Federal Communications Commission.

"It's vitally important that we maintain diversity in media ownership, and what the FCC did was absolutely wrong," said Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, who was among 35 senators signing a petition to overturn the agency's vote.

"We should do everything possible to increase the number of voices giving the public information, rather than taking any chances that the number of outlets will be reduced," Ms. Hutchison said.
