Fairchild Semiconductor May Cut up to 100 Jobs in South Portland, Maine.

Jul. 18--Fairchild Semiconductor plans to shut down an older machine line and may cut up to 100 jobs in South Portland as part of a global restructuring that's also hitting plants in Malaysia, China and Colorado.
The plan seems to be an effort to discontinue non-core product lines made on older e...uipment.
While the computer chip maker didn't release the number of global or local job cuts during a ...uarterly conference call on Thursday, a company official contacted South Portland City Manager Jeffrey Jordan to inform him of coming layoffs.
