Thai Media Group's Films to Bypass Cinemas, Go Straight to DVD, VCD.

Jul. 18--Ray Pictures Co, a subsidiary of listed GMM Media Plc, is riding on the boom in home entertainment with a 200-million-baht investment to produce 30-40 movies on VCD and DVD.
The movies -- ranging from comedy, drama, action and so on -- will not be shown at cinemas but sold directly to consumers.
Ray projects total sales will triple next year to 600 million baht from 200 million this year with 20 new movies, costing 100 million baht, due for release this year.
Managing director Hasskun Chanklom said the movie expansion signalled the sharp growth in VCD and DVD sales for home entertainment.
