Boards in Alaska Attempt to Reopen Coal Power Plant.

Jul. 22--Board members from Golden Valley Electric Association and the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority will meet Aug. 7 in Fairbanks in an effort to resolve a long-standing disagreement that has kept the $297 million Healy Clean Coal Project mothballed since late 1999.

Fairbanks-based GVEA, the regional electric utility, had contracted with AIDEA to operate and buy power from the plant, which was built by AIDEA and half-funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to test new clean coal-burning technologies.
