Ratings Agency Says Thai Banking System Moving in Right Direction.

Jul. 23--The Thai banking system is moving in the right direction, driven by favorable economic growth and efforts by banks and regulators to resolve non-performing assets, says the ratings agency Standard & Poor's.

But local banks would continue to face challenges in sustaining gains in asset ...uality, profitability and capital position, said Nancy Goh, S&P associate director for financial service ratings.

She said a credit rating upgrade for the sector would depend on the ability of banks in reducing bad loans and showing sustainable profitability.
