Jul. 24--WACHOVIA BANK NAME COMING TO STATE: The Wachovia Bank name is coming to Connecticut.

Starting today, signs outside 80 First Union branches and elsewhere will be changed to the Wachovia name and logo. A total of 2,400 signs will be changed in Connecticut by the end of July.

Most of First Union's branches are in Fairfield and New Haven counties. In the Hartford area, First Union has branches in downtown Hartford, Bloomfield and Southington.

First Union and Wachovia (pronounced Wa-CO-via, the "h" is silent) merged Sept. 1, 2001, taking the Wachovia name. The conversion to the Wachovia name began in Florida and has gradually worked its way up the East Coast....
