Volkswagen to End Production in Mexico City of Its Original Beetle.

Jul. 30--MEXICO CITY--Bug lovers called it the "car of the century." But that was last century.

On Wednesday, the only nation on Earth still producing the original Volkswagen Beetle is scheduled to mothball production and end an era.

The last Bug is No. 3,000 in what Volkswagen AG calls the "Ultimate Edition," a special model in beige or pastel blue, with chrome and whitewalls from its past. It's set to roll off the Puebla assembly line, 80 miles southeast of Mexico City, for shipping to a VW museum in Wolfsburg, Germany.
