Repairs to Nuclear Plant to Cost American Electric Power $44 Million.

Jul. 30--American Electric Power said this week that it would replace vessel heads over both reactors at its Cook Nuclear Power Plant in Bridgman, Mich.

The $44 million project will start in the fall of 2006, the company said.

Although there are no problems with the vessel heads at Cook, federal inspection re...uirements have increased because of concerns over potential cracking of the heads and corrosion, Columbus-based AEP said in a news release.

"Replacement is the right long-term solution and demonstrates AEP's commitment to extended operation,'' said Chris Bakken, AEP senior vice president of nuclear generation.
