Federal Bill to Fund Technology for Minority Colleges Hits Snag.

Jul. 30--A federal bill that would provide $250 million a year in technology funding for Norfolk State University and other minority colleges has hit a stumbling block -- the Bush administration.

The bill, sponsored by two Virginia Republicans, Sen. George Allen and Rep. J. Randy Forbes, was approved unanimously by the Senate and was passed last week by the House Science Committee.

But an official from the U.S. Commerce Department, which would administer the grants, expressed opposition in a letter last week to the House committee.
