Hospitality-Industry Training Program in Norfolk, Va., Runs Out of Funds.

Aug. 9--NORFOLK, Va.--Courtney Spence, a front desk clerk at La Quinta Inn in Virginia Beach, learned "how to get average daily rates, do budgets, order supplies and all that good stuff."

Noreen Van Exel, who works the front desk at the Navy Lodge in Norfolk, got a better handle on how hotel managers predict how many rooms will get booked.

Clarence Steward, a former front office supervisor who will soon start work as a security officer at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott, got pointers on "how to select different grades of carpet for high-traffic and low-traffic areas."

All three were among 180 graduates this week of a nondegree program run...
