Aug. 20--This spring, when House and Senate budget writers were putting the finishing touches on a budget that would provide no pay raises to most state workers, their leaders were doling out handsome raises to their own staffs.
Here are some examples:
-- Rolf Blizzard, Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight's chief of staff, got a 15.5 percent pay raise April 21, bringing his salary to $107,000.
-- Amy Fulk , Basnight's communications and research director, went from $69,000 to $75,000 that same day -- an 8.7 percent increase .
-- Dixie Epps, in Republican Speaker Richard Morgan's office, on Feb. 6 jumped from $29,329 to $59,500, a...
