Israel Retaliates after Suicide Bombing, Kills Hamas Leader.

Aug. 22--TEL AVIV, Israel--Israel assassinated a senior leader of the radical Islamic group Hamas yesterday, in the first of an expected series of retaliatory strikes for the Hamas-sponsored suicide bombing that killed 20 people in Jerusalem Tuesday night.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad, another extremist Palestinian faction, said the cease-fire that they unilaterally declared in late June was over, confirming what seemed obvious from the carnage in the Israeli capital after a Muslim prayer leader blew himself up on a bus crowded with Jews.
