Connecticut Official Raises Questions about Legality of Gambling Plan.

Aug. 22--NEWINGTON, Conn. -- Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said Thursday that a gambling industry proposal linking live televised horse racing with telephone betting would be "an enormous expansion of legalized gambling never approved by the General Assembly."

"The implications are huge. This proposal is a big deal. We are at a crossroads," said Blumenthal, who spoke at a public hearing at the state Division of Special Revenue, which oversees gambling in the state. Blumenthal said that under the plan submitted by Autotote Enterprises Inc., "every household would become [an Off-Track Betting] simulcast broadcast facility."
