Aug. 25--American Airlines Center, in a partnership with Dallas Sportservice Inc., has paid $1.3 million to nonprofit agencies under a program that began in 2001.
Of that total, $620,000 was earned in the last year, and minority groups received $429,000 of that sum.
The nonprofit groups earn money by working at up to half of the concession stands at the arena.
"Groups can earn up to 11.5 percent of food, beverage and beer net sales, depending on the number of events worked," said Dianne Johnson Allen, the nonprofit event coordinator for Dallas Sportservice Inc. "One group actually earned more than $70,000 a year."
