Stora Enso North America to Cut 700 Jobs.

Aug. 27--Stora Enso North America will eliminate 700 jobs in a new round of cost-cutting, as the subsidiary of Finland's Stora Enso looks to cut its operating losses amid fierce competition and a sluggish economy.

The maker of coated glossy paper used in magazines and catalogs said Tuesday it will eliminate 60 jobs next week with the permanent shutdown of paper machines in Stevens Point and Biron. The elimination of the Biron machine had been expected, said Tim Laatsch, company senior vice president.
