AMR Stock Recovers, but Standard & Poor's Index Not Ready to Take It Back.

Aug. 29--The stock price of AMR Corp. has made a remarkable recovery after the company was dropped in March from the Standard & Poor's 500 index. So can AMR now rejoin the club?

No, not any time soon, index officials said. The company's size as measured by market capitalization (outstanding shares times share price) and its profitability still make it ineligible for consideration in the index, said David Blitzer, chairman of the S&P 500 index committee.
