Transmission Line Dispute Pits Southern Nevada Water Authority against Utility.

Aug. 6--The Southern Nevada Water Authority, which had its $3.2 billion offer for Nevada Power Co. spurned last year, is challenging the investor-owned utility again -- this time in a transmission service dispute.

At a meeting today, the Public Utilities Commission will decide whether they want to intervene in the federal regulatory matter. State regulators already have decided to participate in a similar case.

The dispute revolves around the 500-megawatt Silverhawk power plant that the authority and an affiliate of Phoenix-based Pinnacle West Capital Corp. are building in the Apex Industrial Park north of Las Vegas.
