Sanyo to Offer Plasma Televisions for Terrestrial Digital Broadcasts.

Aug. 6--OSAKA, Japan--Sanyo Electric Co. said Wednesday it will release plasma-display television sets e...uipped with built-in tuners for terrestrial digital broadcasts for the first time.
Starting Oct. 1, the consumer electronics maker will offer 11 models, with 37- or 42-inch screens, in its Vizon series at prices ranging from 720,000 yen to 930,000 yen.
In addition to digital broadcasts, the new TVs digitize analogue programs for sharper images.
Terrestrial digital TV broadcasts are due to get fully under way in the three major urban areas surrounding Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya in December and in the rest of Japan by the end of 2006.
