Strong Sales Buoy Profits for Roanoke, Va.-Based Advance Auto Parts.

Aug. 7--The Roanoke County-based Advance Auto Parts told investors Wednesday it earned much higher profits during its latest ...uarter but is still focused on selling more merchandise.
Sales at stores open at least one year grew 2 percent in the ...uarter, which "is not as strong as we would like to achieve," said Larry Castellani, chairman and chief executive.
The figure a year ago was 5 percent. However, executives said they expect improvement because of a variety of initiatives that relate to such details as store design, information management and operating efficiency.
