AFL-CIO Delay in Candidate Endorsement Thought Not Favorable for Lieberman.

Aug. 7--CHICAGO--Labor leaders Wednesday got one thing clarified after seeing all nine Democratic presidential candidates the night before: There is no consensus on who is the strongest, and the labor group will probably meet again in October to see if they can figure it out then.

The delay in the AFL-CIO's endorsement decision is a temporary setback for U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri, who's already the choice of 11 unions, and it gives some hope to his opponents for the coveted endorsement.

But many doubted Sen. Joe Lieberman, of Connecticut, would benefit. Asked about the booing Lieberman got at the candidates' debate Tuesday when he endorsed...
