Urban Sociologist Studies High Point, N.C.'s Path to Furniture Mart Prosperity.

Sep. 2--Urban sociologist John Joe "J.J." Schlichtman said adaptation to the International Home Furnishings Market has made downtown High Point a source of fascination for social scientists worldwide.

In the course of preparing a doctoral dissertation at New York University u and with funding freshly authorized by the National Science Foundation u Schlichtman has entered into a two-year study of the city's course as it has navigated the change from manufacturing to a service economy.
