Senate Votes Down Bush Administration's Overtime Pay Proposal.

Sep. 11--The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to bar the Bush administration from rewriting overtime pay rules - a move Hampton Roads labor leaders applauded as a defense against President Bush's "attack on working people."

"We've been fighting that long and hard," said David Vinson, president of Teamsters Local 822 in Norfolk, which represents about 1,900 local workers at companies including United Parcel Service Inc. and Smithfield Packing Co. Inc., formerly known as Gwaltney of Smithfield Ltd. "The effect would be a catastrophe."
