Orange County, Fla., Official Believes Sales Tax Can Provide Road Relief.

Sep. 14--At their worst, Orange County's streets and highways offer no mercy, whether someone is late for work, rushing to pick up a child or delivering lifeblood.
Orange County Chairman Rich Crotty wants to convince voters that a new, 20-year, half-cent sales tax can provide relief. But the fix would cost taxpayers billions of dollars and a decade of even more traffic pain.
On Oct. 7, Orange County voters will go to the polls to decide whether the relief is worth it.
Interstate 4 would be torn up almost from county line to county line, getting four freeway lanes and two toll lanes in each direction. Critical major streets also would be widened...
