U.S. Senate Backs Repeal Of New FCC Media Rules.

Sep. 17--WASHINGTON--The Republican-controlled U.S. Senate Tuesday approved a rollback of all the Federal Communications Commission's new media-ownership rules, defying a White House veto threat.

In the latest blow to the FCC's Republican majority and the nation's biggest media companies, senators voted 55-40 to reject the rule changes adopted by a divided commission on June 2.

But the measure faces stiff opposition in the House.

The changes would allow broadcast networks to expand their ownership of local stations, more companies to own multiple stations in a single market, and companies in most markets to own both a TV station and a newspaper....
