Milwaukee-Area Union Workers Fear Job Loss if Harley-Davidson 'Outsources'.

Sep. 23--Union leaders are concerned that Harley-Davidson might eliminate jobs here by outsourcing the production of motorcycle transmissions.

Several hundred Harley-Davidson jobs in the Milwaukee area are associated with transmission work, according to union officials, although it's unknown how many jobs would be affected if any outsourcing took place.

"The company seems to be questioning whether it makes good business sense to do some of the transmission work in Wisconsin," said Richard Krause, president of Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers Local 7209 that represents about 1,600 Harley-Davidson employees.
