West Japan Railway Company to Introduce Cell Phone-Operated Lockers.

Sep. 29--OSAKA, Japan--West Japan Railway Co. (JR West) will introduce new luggage lockers at Osaka Station on Wednesday that can be accessed with a mobile phone rather than a conventional key, company officials said Monday.

To lock the door, users call a given number on their mobile phone and register their phone number as the key. They place another call to unlock the door, the officials said.

Locker fees are 100 yen for the first three hours and an additional 100 yen for every three hours thereafter. Since users access the locker with their mobile phone, the new system frees them from the worry of misplacing a locker key, the officials said.
