Pratt & Whitney Partners with Russian Rocket Manufacturer.

Sep. 29--Pratt & Whitney is ready to build Russian rockets, almost.
Pratt's space unit partnered with a Russian rocket company, NPO Energomash, in the mid-1990s.
The strategy was that the Russians would make rockets and Pratt would market them in the United States.
Pratt had the perfect sales pitch for NASA and the U.S. Air Force: Variety is the spice of life.
The Russians make a rocket engine that uses kerosene; all U.S. rockets use a mix of highly volatile oxygen and hydrogen.
Pratt employs 1,200 to 1,300 in West Palm Beach, 900 of whom design rocket engines.
