Nearly 25 Percent of Texas Residents Uninsured, Census Says.

Sep. 30--Nearly a quarter of residents in Texas lack health coverage - a larger percentage than in any other state - and the situation has been getting worse, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report to be released Tuesday.
The survey shows 24.7 percent of state residents had no insurance during the two-year period ending last December, reflecting an increase of more than one percentage point from the prior two-year period studied, 2000-01.
Texas also had the nation's highest proportion of uninsured in 2000-01.
