Now Owned by Boeing, Apache Helicopters Still Flying after 20 Years.

Sep. 30--Today marks the 20th anniversary of the roll out of the first Apache attack helicopter off Hughes Helicopters' production line in Mesa. Two ownership changes later, more than 1,000 Apaches are flying with the U.S. Army and allied forces worldwide, and the Boeing aircraft continues to make an impact on the world. Apache program officials say planned upgrades could keep the durable military machine in production to the year 2030. Boeing is in discussions with the U.S. Army about a new round of high-tech modifications, called "Block III," that would give the helicopter capabilities that were only concepts when the first airframe came off the assembly line.
