Oct. 2--TOKYO--Fast Retailing Co., operator of Uniqlo casual clothing stores, said Thursday its sales fell 11.4 percent in September from a year earlier on a same-store basis after rising in August for the first time in 23 months.

Fast Retailing blamed the decline on high temperatures in early September that dampened consumer demand for fall clothing.

The number of customers visiting 499 Uniqlo stores under review decreased 9.1 percent, while spending per shopper dropped 2.5 percent.

Sales at 583 outlets under direct management fell 5.2 percent.

The company does not release actual sales figures.
