Nine Plaintiffs Claim Age Discrimination in Belk's Restructuring Campaign.

Oct. 3--Charlotte-based Belk Inc. on Thursday denied allegations that it engaged in age discrimination when it restructured operations last year and eliminated 260 jobs.
Altogether, nine plaintiffs are arguing that the restructuring was a systematic attempt to eliminate the jobs of workers older than 50 in favor of younger employees -- illegal under federal age-discrimination laws.
"We deny all of the allegations," Belk spokesman Steve Pernotto said of the lawsuits. He declined further comment on the cases, citing company policy.
