Peco Energy to Switch Some Pennsylvania Customers to New Power Providers.

Oct. 3--Starting next week, more than a quarter million Peco Energy Co. customers will get a notice that they're being switched to a new electricity provider.

Eager to avoid a repeat of the outrage that followed a similar effort in 2001, the utility and the Pennsylvania Consumer Advocate are eager to point out that the switch is a no-lose proposition for customers, who are guaranteed reliable service and a small discount from Peco's rates.

"It's a one-year term, and they can at any time return to Peco or choose an alternate," Peco spokeswoman Cathy Engel said.
