Sanyo Electric Co. to Boost Lithium-Ion Battery Output by 50 Percent.

Oct. 6--OSAKA, Japan--Sanyo Electric Co. said Monday it will boost global monthly production capacity of lithium-ion batteries by 50 percent to 58 million units by March 31, 2005.

With the plan, the company will address rapidly growing demand for the rechargeable battery for use in cell phones, notebook computers and digital cameras, it said.

It will also further solidify Sanyo's position as the world's largest lithium-ion battery maker amid increasing competition from South Korean and Chinese battery manufacturers, the company said.
