NWA Turns Down Offer from Michigan, Will Close Reservation Center.

Oct. 8--The state of Michigan has offered Northwest Airlines $14 million in tax credits and other incentives, hoping to convince the carrier to nix its planned closing of a Detroit-area reservation center. But Northwest is rejecting the pitch.

Northwest would collect the incentives only if it kept its Livonia, Mich., reservation center open and moved reservation center operations -- and hundreds of jobs -- from other states to Michigan. That would require the closing of two centers in Minnesota.

"Every job is important, and we will fight for every one," Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm said in a press release about her state's offer.
