NBC to Acquire Vivendi Universal for $14 Billion.

Oct. 9--The NBC Peacock's finally strutting in Hollywood.

General Electric-owned NBC catapulted to the media big leagues yesterday, reaching a final agreement to acquire Vivendi Universal for $14 billion.

The move puts NBC chairman Bob Wright in charge of a vast entertainment empire to be called NBC Universal. It will combine the NBC Television network, Spanish language broadcaster Telemundo, MSNBC and CNBC with Universal's studio, theme parks and cable networks USA and Sci Fi.

GE will hold an 80 percent stake in NBC Universal and Vivendi will keep the rest. The French media giant will get a shot at cashing out starting in 2006. GE will pay Vivendi...
