Authorities Crack Down on Counterfeit Drug Sales.

Oct. 13--Organized criminals are running increasingly sophisticated operations to introduce counterfeit and black-market prescription medicines into mainstream distribution channels, peddling phony or diluted cancer medications, male impotence drugs, and a hormone for AIDS patients that is also popular with bodybuilders, according to state and federal authorities.

Authorities have made a series of arrests in Florida and New Jersey, and Nevada is moving this week to shut down wholesalers accused of purchasing and selling drugs of dubious origin, including counterfeit Serostim, the AIDS drug manufactured by Serono S.A., a Swiss company which has its US headquarters in...
