Northern Indiana Public Service Chief Sticks to Plan to Expand Service Model.

Oct. 14--GARY, Ind.--One week before critical hearings before state regulators, the new president of Northern Indiana Public Service Co. is standing firm on the company's plans to expand its controversial area service model.

On the job for one week, NIPSCO president Mark Maassel said he was "baffled" by opposition to some aspects of the plan, which at one time included closing five maintenance hubs in northern Indiana.

"It's not the buildings that are critical," Maassel said. "It's that we have people ready and available to take care of customers."
