Bike Rally Visitors Roll Up Weekend's Occupancy Rates in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Oct. 12--Bikers gave Grand Strand hotels a nice boost in business last weekend.
Weekend occupancy jumped 15 percent over the same weekend a year ago to hit 82 percent, according to Coastal Carolina University's Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism. Rates were up about 3 percent.
But the week leading up to it didn't perform as well, with occupancy off 1 percent and rates down 2 percent.
"The weekend more than made up for it," said CCU's Gary Loftus.
Officials estimated as many as 40,000 bikers attended the fall Harley-Davidson rally, which started Oct. 1 and ended Oct. 5.
