Apple iTunes Music Store to Soon Face Competition.

Oct. 16--Less than six months ago Apple Computer unveiled its groundbreaking iTunes Music Store, which lets Macintosh users download songs and burn them to CDs for 99 cents each.

Experts lauded the service as a visionary alternative to illegal online music swapping. And Macintosh users, who account for about percent of the personal computer market, voted with their wallets, buying more than 10 million titles since late April.

Today le is expected to launch a similar service for Windows personal computer users. The online music landscape, however, has shifted dramatically since iTunes' debut in spring.
