Oct. 17--ECHOSTAR BIDS FOR LORAL SATELLITES, SLOTS: EchoStar Communications has bid $1.029 billion for the six North American satellites and orbital slots of bankrupt Loral Space & Communications.
The bid Wednesday followed Littleton-based EchoStar's previous informal offers of $1.85 billion for the entirety of Loral's operations. The bid will compete with another submitted by Intelsat that has been reported at $1.1 billion.
"Based on everything we know, we believe that our offer is superior to Intelsat's original offer," EchoStar spokesman Steve Caulk said. EchoStar operates the Dish Network satellite-TV brand.
