Nanotechnology Can Be Big for Allentown, Pa., Area, Researcher Says.

Oct. 21--Nanotechnology, the science of creating materials and devices at the atomic and molecular levels, has taken root in the Lehigh Valley.

But a cross-pollination of ideas could help the emerging field blossom.

That was the goal of the "NanoForum" hosted by Lehigh University on Monday.

About 50 people attended the event. Local companies represented included Air Products and Chemicals of Trexlertown and Agere Systems of Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

"We have a critical mass of what we call 'small-tech' companies," said Martin Harmer, director of Lehigh's Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology.
