Oct. 22--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--Resisting strong pressure from Gov. Jeb Bush to approve quickly his plan to lure a biotechnology firm to Palm Beach County, state legislators slowed negotiations a bit Tuesday by demanding new payback and job-creation guarantees from The Scripps Research Institute.
With a $310-million package of tax giveaways on the table, legislators tweaked the deal, including changes to the size, makeup and powers of the corporation that will disburse the funds to Scripps over the next seven years.
