American Airlines to Retain Overhaul Base In Kansas City, Mo.

Oct. 23--American Airlines plans to keep operating its Kansas City overhaul base at current employment levels, at least for now, ending recent suspense over the fate of a major employer.

But long-term plans for the base could result in significant shrinkage in the base's work force.

American said Wednesday that it had reached an understanding with the city to sign a 25-year lease for the base's wide-body hangar. That would keep work on American's wide-body fleet, the Boeing 767, and possibly other models in Kansas City.
