Brokerage Acquisition Boosts Earnings for Softbank Investment Corp.

Oct. 23--TOKYO--Softbank Investment Corp., a venture capital firm belonging to the Softbank group, said Thursday its acquisition of an online brokerage business boosted its earnings in the April-September period.

Softbank Investment, owned 52.5 percent by Softbank Finance Corp., a wholly owned unit of Softbank Corp., said it posted group net and pretax profits of 779 million yen and 1.83 billion yen, respectively, on revenues of 7.37 billion yen in the first half of fiscal 2003.

The company released no earnings results in the first half of the previous year as it changed its book-closing date to March 31 from Sept. 30 in March this year.
