Hard-Disk Drive Industry Likely to Fully Consolidate, US Consultancy Says.

Oct. 28--The global hard-disk drive (HDD) industry is expected to fully consolidate over the next five years with more manufacturing shifting to China and the rest of Asia including Thailand to reduce costs and enjoy huge market potential, according to the US consultancy Gartner Dataquest.
While Singapore remains a crucial strategic site for highly skilled drive development personnel, manufacturing gravity is shifting from the United States' Silicon Valley and Japan, China and other Asian countries including Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Korea, said John Monroe, Gartner's vice-president for research.
