Senator Says Smoggy Air Threatens Tennessee's Health, Economic Future.

Oct. 28--Chattanoogans may be breathing easier than their parents did, but lingering problems with smoggy air threaten to cloud the Tennessee Valley's health and economic future, said U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.

"In most parts of the country, the air is a lot cleaner as a result of the Clean Air laws," Sen. Alexander said. "But ozone, which is the smog that Los Angeles is famous for and which is very damaging to our health, has gotten significantly worse, and that's the problem that we have to deal with in Tennessee."

New federal ozone standards will require Chattanooga and other major metropolitan cities in Tennessee, Georgia and the nation to reduce air...
