Southwest Airlines to Start Service in Philadelphia.

Oct. 29--Add cheesesteak to the list of fun foods found in Southwest Airlines Co.'s cities. The Dallas-based carrier announced Tuesday it will start service at Philadelphia International Airport next May.

The move to serve the nation's No. 4 city marks a departure for the low-cost carrier.

Southwest usually picks secondary airports outside big population centers. The smaller airfields are less congested, carry fewer operations costs -- and are eager to land the airline.

Philadelphia's reaction wasn't any different.
