Nov. 4--What has William H. Donaldson done for us lately?
Clearly, the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission, formerly the CEO of Aetna, is under pressure. With investment scandals breaking like waves on the north shore of Australia, Donaldson's SEC needs to take one for a ride.
Monday wasn't a day at the beach for Donaldson. While he spoke at the University of Connecticut, Eliot Spitzer, the New York State attorney general, traveled to Congress to claim credit for uncovering the latest shenanigans -- improper trading by mutual fund managers. Senators from both parties slammed the SEC for dozing.
